Analysis Department
Source: Encyclopedia of Banking & Finance (9h Edition) by Charles J Woelfel
(We recommend this as work of authority and you can order it here)

An organizational title often found in the organizational structure of banks, investment banking firms, and brokerage firms, generally indicating a staff function concerned with the analysis and study of operational data, particularly budgeting, cost accounting, and operations planning, with the aim of improving methods and performance.  The larger the institution, the more likely such a managerial function will be provided organizationally, because of the problem of efficiencies in size, under various titles, such as “operations supervision” under a separate vice-president or managing partner, or under the comptroller or cashier.

In brokerage firms, the investment analysis, advisory, and research department was often referred to as the “statistical department,” a term now generally found replaced by these more descriptive titles.
