Graduate School of Banking

The Stonier Graduate School of Banking, sponsored by the American Bankers Association, was established in 1935.  It offers a three-year course for bankers at the policy-making level, providing advanced education in the history, theory, and economics of banking to assist bank officers in making policy and administrative decisions.

To qualify for graduation, each student must complete three summer sessions at the school, which meets for annual two-week summer sessions on the campus of Rutgers University, plus two years of extension study at home.  The student must also write a thesis based on original research on some phase of finance.  The thesis requirement is designed to train "S.G.S.B.´graduates in organized thinking and expression of ideas, and also to afford continuing exploration into the field of banking.  Three major subjects are offered:  commercial banking, trusts, and savings management and real estate financing.  During the day sessions, students concentrate on their selected major; eveing sessions are devoted to courses required of all students.
